Raj Ghat (राज घाट)
Raj Ghat is the memorial which was made in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi in the capital of India. It is situated near the Yamuna River which flows from east side of Delhi. Raj Ghat is a garden which has trees all around. Greenery is available all around and this site is a major forest cover of Delhi. And there is a graveyard of Gandhiji who was the father of our nation.
The graveyard of Mahatma Gandhi lies in the centre of the Raj Ghat. The graveyard is made up of black marble platform that is the actual location of Gandhiji’s cremation. A flame is also lightened up such that it displays that the world remembers him which is shown by the lightening flame. The graveyard was constructed a day after the Mahatma Gandhi death on 30th January 1948. The graveyard is made open to the atmosphere and it is surrounded by walls all around.
Raj Ghat is located at a place in Delhi which is close to memorial of other leaders of the nation be it Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, and other well known leaders of our nation. Each one of the personalities have their own memorials made such as Jawahar Lal Nehru’s memorial is known by the name Shantivan. Adjacent to it, there is K.R. Narayanan memorial named Ekta Sthal which was built in 2005.
The memorial was made in the memory of Gandhiji and the country must remember him for the work he has done for his country and the people of India. He has made us free from the British rule that was there at that time. For his work the people call him – Father of the Nation.
