Christ Church (क्राइस्ट चर्च)
Christ Church is one of the oldest churches which are in the Shimla city of the Himachal Pradesh. It was built in the year 1857 and it is located in the ridge area of the city. Christ Church is most famous hang out place in the city of Shimla. It is the church in which the worship takes places in English as well as in Hindi language. Only the name is sufficient to mark the presence of the church in which city. It was built during British had conquered and invaded in India. It has a great historical significance as it is a part of historical India.
The design of the Christ Church was done by Colonel J.T. Boileau in the year 1844. The total cost of construction came out to be around Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000. The clock which is at the Christ Church was given by Colonel Dumbelton. The porch was added in the Christ Church in the year 1873. Their is a clock and 5 bells in the Church. The clock is there on the Church does not give the right time as the mechanism inside the clock has become old and needs to be replaced.
The designing of the Christ Church is done in the way that it reflects the beauty of the construction. There is a sitting capacity of almost 574 people and it can be increased to 630. The church is decorated with lights such that when it is lightened in the night it shows the eternal beauty of the architecture of the church. The height of the tower of Christ Church is 90 ft. The place is so quiet and calm that by visiting the place it gives us peace, humility, hope, patience. The church also has a great collection of books about history and ancient methodologies that were followed at that time.
