Sankat Mochan Temple (संकत मोचन मंदिर)
Sankat Mochan Temple is a temple of Hindu mythology which is dedicated to Hindu God Hanuman. It is situated in the hills of the city Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. It is located on the Kalka Shimla highway which is National Highway 22. The temple construction was started in the early 1950s and was built by Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj. He had gone to the place in that time period and decided that a temple should be built which will be dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The baba had told his wish to Governer of Himachal Pradesh, who along with Bhagvan Sahai started the construction of the temple.
The temple construction was completed in the month of June in the year 1966. After the completion of construction, the wish of Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaja’s was fulfilled. The temple that was constructed at that time was very much small in terms of area, then it was reconstructed as the number of devotees started coming to the temple. Hence due to the large number of devotees attending the temple, it was constructed into a temple of larger area.
The temple also encompasses the praying hall for the Lord Ganesha which is built is in the south Indian style of architecture such that it attracts all the visitors. The temple has a three storey building in which upper floors of the temple has Langar facility which serves food for the needy and helpless people. Also, marriage ceremonies do occur in one floor of the temple which the authority charges some fee from the people. There are many ceremonies and functions which are held at the temple. The priests and the working staff of the temple also stay at the temple premises only. There is a residential complex which is made so that the priests can stay here along the period of serving.
