Tara Devi Temple (तारा देवी मंदिर)
Tara Devi Temple is located in the Shimla city of Himachal Pradesh and is the temple of Goddess Tara and she is the second of the ten Mahavidyas or “Great Wisdom goddesses”. The goddess is a form of Shakti or which gives power to us. The word Tara is derived out from the Sanskrit language and the meaning of the word is to cross. The other meanings of the word Tara are star also has reference to the motion with respect to the sky.
The word Tara is in Sanskrit and the literal meaning in Buddhism is a female Bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism. She is been called as the mother of liberation and represents the success and achievements in work. The temple was built in the 18th century.
The Tara Devi Temple is located in the western part of Shimla city. It is about 15 km from the central ridge area of the city. There is a trek available on the way to the Tara Devi Temple in which the people have to trek around 4 km to reach the temple. The journey is amazing in its own as it will give you some of the wonderful experiences. As the location of the temple is at the hill top, the whole view of the track can be seen from there. To reach the temple the travelers have to walk from the National Highway. From the station of Shimla tourists have to take some vehicle in order to reach the temple.
The temple is open from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM and the entry is free of cost. The temple remains open on all days of a year and hence a visitor can visit it anytime. The visit duration of the temple is almost 1 to 2 hours.
